Remembering is a product of Who Passed On LLC, which also operates WhoPassedOn.com. This Privacy Policy applies only to the Remembering service. For information about data practices on WhoPassedOn.com, please refer to the WhoPassedOn.com Privacy Policy.
By using the Service, you consent to the collection, use, and sharing of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account information: your name and email address when you create an account
- Memorial content: the deceased's name, dates of birth and passing, location, obituary, life story, family information, funeral/service event details, and program schedule
- Photos: images you upload to memorial timelines, stored securely in our cloud storage
- Stories and memories: text content submitted by you or by community contributors to a memorial
- Payment information: payment details processed by Stripe — we do not store your credit card number, CVV, or full card details directly on our servers
- Communications: any emails or messages you send to us directly
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data: pages you visit, features you use, and actions you take within the Service
- Device information: browser type, operating system, screen resolution
- IP address
- Referral source: how you arrived at the Service (e.g., search engine, direct link, social media)
- Analytics data: collected via Vercel Analytics and any other analytics tools we use to understand how the Service is used
Information from Third Parties
- Authentication providers: if you sign in using a social account (such as Google, Facebook, or Apple), we receive basic profile information (name, email) from that provider
- Payment confirmation: Stripe provides us with transaction status and basic billing details (but not your full card number)
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information for the following purposes:
- To provide, operate, and maintain the Remembering service
- To create and display memorial pages as you have configured them
- To process payments and manage subscriptions
- To send transactional emails, including memorial invitations, approval notifications, ownership transfer requests, and account-related communications via Resend
- To provide memorial search functionality via Typesense
- To display maps and provide address lookup for funeral and service event locations via Google Maps
- To improve the Service, diagnose technical issues, and fix bugs
- To enforce our Terms of Service
- To comply with legal obligations
We do NOT sell your personal information to third parties.
We do NOT use your memorial content, photos, or stories for advertising, marketing to third parties, or any purpose other than providing and operating the Service as described.

We share your information with the following third-party service providers solely for the purpose of operating the Service:

- Encryption of data at rest in our database and storage systems
- Restricted access to user data, limited to authorized personnel who need it to operate the Service
- Row-level security policies in our database to ensure users can only access data they are authorized to see
Despite our efforts, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information, but we are committed to protecting it using commercially reasonable measures.
7. Data Retention
- Memorial content (photos, stories, obituary, event details): retained indefinitely as long as the Service exists, unless the memorial owner requests deletion
- Account data (name, email, profile): retained until you request account deletion
- Payment records: retained as required by applicable law and for legitimate accounting purposes
- Analytics data: retained in aggregate, anonymized form
- Draft memorials (unpaid): may be deleted after 90 days of inactivity
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information as quickly as possible.

12. Right to Delete

Upon receiving your request, we will:
- Delete your account profile data (name, email)
- If requested, delete any memorials you own and all associated content (photos, memories, events, family information)
- Remove your community contributions (memories and photos submitted to other users' memorials) upon request, though memorial owners may have already saved or printed the content
Some data may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes, including:
- Payment records required for tax and accounting compliance
- Data necessary to resolve ongoing disputes or enforce our Terms
- Backup copies, which are purged in the normal course of operations
13. Links to Other Services
The Service may contain links to WhoPassedOn.com (our parent obituary platform) and other third-party websites and services. This Privacy Policy applies only to the Remembering service at remembering.whopassedon.com.
If your memorial was created by a funeral home partner, some of your memorial data (such as the deceased's name and basic information) may also appear on the funeral home's profile on WhoPassedOn.com, subject to the WhoPassedOn.com Privacy Policy.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party websites or services you visit through links on the Service.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our data practices, changes in the law, or for other operational reasons.
